Barn quilts decorate the sides of barns throughout rural America. Barn quilt trails are driving routes mapped to see all the barn quilts in a particular state or county. They have created tourist booms in smaller rural communities by drawing attention to an otherwise overlooked region.  This one is going up on a barn in rural Vermont!

Quilts have always been an inspiration and an easy way for me to “doodle” with fabric. Traditionally quilts have been both utilitarian and decorative, and quilting is a craft that is synonymous with the hand and community. Stories were notoriously passed down through generations by women in quilting circles. Women sewed clothing scraps into functional quilts, preserving her family’s history in cloth.
